Bathroom Renovations & Facelifts:

One of my specialties is small to medium bathroom renovations, facelifts, and upgrades to full bathrooms and powder rooms. I do full bathroom guts with new tubs and shower surrounds, or just partial facelifts to existing bathrooms, like new floors, new shower tile surround, new countertops, new accessories, and painting etc.

As a small business, I don’t have a design center or show room for material selections like the big bathroom companies have, and so I take on the jobs that some of the bigger bathroom companies don’t have the time for.

I work directly with customers who already have a design idea in place and have a reasonable budget to work with for their bathrooms. For those customers who need a bit of help with design ideas and material selections, I can help with design and material selections using my architectural background.  For extensive design help, I do have to charge for my design time, or you can consult an independent design professional before the project starts.

I work with a lot of customers who want to supply some of their own materials, which the larger bathroom reno companies don’t like to do. Often, my customers will supply the larger pieces like the tub, vanity, toilet, flooring and tiles, and I will provide all the other materials (like plumbing parts, drywall, tile adhesive etc.). I find my customers like this method a lot because they do their own material selection and shopping, which saves them the money to pay someone else to shop and do the material selections for them. Plus, I do offer suggestions and give the customers guidelines beforehand on which materials they should look for or stay away from. Once all the major bathroom pieces are on site, I will inspect the materials beforehand, and I will only install products that I am comfortable installing.

***Please Note: Often, I get asked by customers to do bathrooms jobs, where the customer wants to do some of the work themselves, and usually I won’t take on those jobs. Occasionally I will do a job where the customer does their own painting at the end of the job after I am done my work, but I won’t work on a bathroom simultaneously with a homeowner. There’s just too much liability for me to work simultaneously with the homeowner.

***Note: For bathrooms where the homeowner acts as their own General Contractor, has already started their bathroom reno themselves, or had someone else start the bathroom for them: As a rule of thumb, I won’t take on jobs where the homeowner is acting as their own general contractor coordinating multiple trades for their bathroom. Also, except for simple jobs, I am cautious about taking on bathrooms that a homeowner has already started or had someone else already start it before contacting me, because often I need to redo what was already started, and it’s difficult to salvage the work that was already done. I get asked by new customers all the time to help them fix a previous contractor’s work in a bathroom or to finish the bathroom that was already started, and often it leads to a lot of headaches for me. So, I try to avoid those jobs, because there is too much risk of things like leaks, since I don’t know if the work done before me was done correctly or not.

So, if you’re looking to do a small to medium sized bathroom renovation or facelift, check out my sample projects on my gallery page and contact me if you have any questions about your own bathroom project.

I take on bathroom projects on a case-by-case basis, so the best way to determine if I can help you is to send me a detailed email (to mark@marrenovation.ca), with as many pictures of the existing bathroom space and as many details about your design plans that you can. Also, please include in the email the age and type of house that you live in, your location within Ottawa, where you found my contact information, your phone number, and the timeline for the project. Thanks!
